Salary/Budget

Oregon State University is proposing furloughs for faculty. The proposal drafted by two Senate committees was discussed at a meeting of the Faculty Senate on 11/12/09 and was voted on and approved at the 11/19/09 Senate meeting. See this article for a copy of the proposal and additional materials, including a letter by the OSU Chapter of the AAUP urging faculty to accept pay cuts only if there was a guarantee that the cuts would save positions.
The Joint Ways and Means Education Subcommittee passed the OUS Budget on Thursday, June 18, 2009. In the final hours the legislature made cuts to the OUS budget in order the balance the state's finances. The governor announced on 7/1/09 that he will line-item veto those 11th hours cuts.
Here is an update on how UO faculty are doing compared to our AAU comparitors. We track both salary and total compensation. The bottom line is that faculty salaries at UO are dead last among all AAU institutions, not just our AAU comparators. Also se the article "UO Rates Dead Last in Faculty Salaries."
AAUP publishes an annual Report on the Economic Status of the Profession, including an analysis of faculty salaries, In the April issue of Academe. The reports for 2007-08 and 2008-09 are available online.
