AFT Oregon Marches on the Capitol

Put on your FACE lobbying shoes and join AFT members as they head to the capitol in Salem, OR to lobby on behalf of the Faculty and College Excellence Act of Oregon.

Inside the Oregon FACE Hearing

The hearing held on Oregon’s FACE legislation provides a great model for blending different pieces of the argument together with multiple speakers.  This hearing included faculty members, legislative specialists and state and national spokespeople.  Below is a list of some of those who testified with links to their testimony.

FACE Hits Oregon Full Force

AFT’s Faculty and College Excellence campaign pulled into Salem, Oregon on March 28, 2007 with a retinue of supporters ready to testify in support of HB 2578, Oregon’s FACE legislation.  The bill was before the Oregon House Higher Education Subcommittee, chaired by Rep. Peter Buckley, who is also the main sponsor of the bill.  As the Statesman Journal and local radio reported, the hearing room was full of faculty, both full-time and part-time.

Oregon House to Consider Faculty and College Excellence Legislation
February 6, 2007: In Oregon, State Representative Peter Buckley (D-5) has introduced House Bill 2578, the Faculty and College Excellence (FACE) Act. HB 2578 has two goals. It aims to ensure that all faculty members receive the financial and professional support they need to do their best work. And, it looks to establish a better balance between the number of full-time tenured faculty and part- and full-time non tenure-track faculty.
