The AFT-Oregon Executive Council has a vacancy for the Secretary position. Duties for this position include assisting with collecting meeting and committee minutes, notes, agendas, and corresponding documents, and organizing executive council files within a shared digital format for the entire Executive Council. You can read more about the position on page 3 of our Constitution and Bylaws.

The appointed candidate will serve until the end of June 2025. At a minimum, the Secretary is expected to attend monthly AFT-Oregon Executive Committee meetings (4-5 hours, one day a month, in-person OR on Zoom) and to serve on other sub-committees as interested / appointed. This position is eligible for a monthly stipend of up to $500 as determined by the Executive Council. 

Please distribute this vacancy notice widely amongst the membership of your locals and encourage interested folks to apply. In accordance with the Constitution and Bylaws Article VI, Section 2.c, candidates must be union members in good standing, and no one local can field more than two Executive Council officers. Our Executive Council would be especially excited to consider candidates from locals or job classifications that are not already well-represented by elected leadership, and we encourage applicants who bring diverse perspectives to state federation leadership to apply. 

If you are interested in serving in this role, please complete this Google Form which asks you to submit your name, local number, position within your local, and statement of interest detailing why you’re interested. On the form, we have also included more detailed instructions and sample questions to help you craft your statement of interest.  

Please submit the Google Form by Friday June 14th, 2024.  All statements of interest will be collected by Felicity Ratway, a VP at Large for AFT-Oregon and shared with the Executive Council. The Executive Council plans to appoint a candidate to the Secretary position at the Executive Council meeting on Monday, June 17th, 2024. This deadline may be extended based on the level of interest and responses received.
