Members were out in force to celebrate Labor Day

AFT-Oregon members joined their local labor councils to celebrate workers in annual labor day picnics. Vickie Brumit, Local 3972 (SWOCCCF) president attended the Coos Bay/North Bend celebration.

“It was wonderful to see our Local members increase their participation by attending this important event,” said Brumit. “We had great music, kids’ games—a good time was had by all. Each year, we also do a food drive at the picnic, and offer a free meal to needy families in the community.”

Brumit noted that Local 3190 (SWOCCFT) member Anthony Collins, brought cross country students to the picnic and they organized the children’s games.  Another faculty member, Mike Detwiler played in the band who entertained at the event.

Locals 2277 (PCCFFAP) and 3922 (PCCFCE) welcomed some 80 members at the Northwest Oregon Labor Council’s Labor Day Picnic at Oaks Park, in Portland. Senator Jeff Merkley was the special guest speaker, and discount ride bracelets were available for purchase for family fun. Bob Frasco, Local 3922 (PCCFCE) was among those who enjoyed the day.

“I wait with anticipation ALL year for this event! What could be better than good friends, good food and great fun all coming together at once in the perfect setting along the river,” said Frasco. “I've met literally hundreds of friends while working at the college. “I feel very fortunate, blessed really, that I see so many of them with their families as we come together each year at Oak's Park to celebrate workers everywhere.”
